That's how Neil Patrick Harris described films on the last Oscars. Everyone loves them, but before a movie begins, what do you see? No, not we are not talkiing about the health awareness clips. Trailers. That's what we're talking about here. Every movie comes into existence on the screen with a teaser or trailer. Making a 3 minute trailer of a 2-odd hours movie is a terribly tough job! Some nail it, and some just end up ruining the film.
A Still from the FORCE AWAKENS |
Talking about recent trailers, we have the highly anticipated beginning of the sequel trilogy of the Star Wars Saga, i.e, Star Wars Episode VII : The Force Awakens. With JJ Abrams at the helm, the trailers have been BRILLIANT! By now, we can safely call him the Trailer Nailer...okay maybe not, but what he's done is getting you highly excited about the film without actually giving out any of its plot points, and that's how trailers should be done. He's given us a fair amount of nostalgia, and still gotten us intrigued about the new characters and arc. He did a great job with the trailers of Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, but with The Force Awakens, he's given us some of the best trailers. Releasing in India on the 25th of Christmas, Santa clearly loves all his (man-)children!
Moving ahead a little to March 2016, we'll be seeing THE TRINITY ON THE SILVER SCREEN FOR THE FIRST TIME! Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It's the comic book event of the century! The Greatest Superhero of all time, The Dark Knight, and The Amazonian Princess together! I couldn't be more excited about this! The first teaser had me going crazy! "Tell me, do you bleed? You will" sent chills down my spine. The first trailer was so PERFECT that it made me tear up a little. "Black and Blue! GOD VS MAN! DAY VS NIGHT!" Everything in this trailer was absolutely perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better trailer. It was like The Empire Strikes Back of this trailer trilogy, or making a DC, The Dark Knight of this trailer trilogy. Trailer #2, which came out a few days back, as much as I loved it, it really wasn't a great trailer. Trailers are supposed to leave you with excitement and anticipation and intrigue while giving minimal plot points. That was not the case with this trailer. It was more fanservice and nerdgasms than it was a good trailer. Although I agree that there's plenty left for us to see and find out in the movie, revealing Doomsday like that wasn't the best idea to go with.
DOOMSDAY FROM BATMAN VS SUPERMAN |
Talking about comic book events, we have Captain America: Civil War coming up! Fellow comic nerds who've read it would agree with me when I say that this is a very important storyline, and arguably one of Marvel's best! There is no right side to choose, and that's probably the best thing about it! Captain America, a man who stands for everything that the America now doesn't, goes against Tony Stark, aka, Iron Man. Superhero Registration Act is the main thing that the story revolves around. Cap is against it, whereas Tony is for.
TOM HOLLAND AS THE NEW SPIDEY |
With a dilemma in the middle is Spider-Man! We don't know how big is Spidey's involvement in this adaptation but thank the lord that Marvel and Sony made this deal. Because honestly, there is no Civil War without our favourite wall crawler. After months of wait, Marvel finally released its teaser, and it was MARVELLOUS! It was a very well done trailer, showing character development and the quarrel between Cap and the Iron Man, revolving around The Sokovia Accords. Bucky Barnes, aka, The Winter Soldier getting his memories back and Steve Rogers just trying to help and save his best friend, while having to take up a fight with some of his good friends. This trailer really gave us the right amount of intrigue and made us question Cap's motive for a while. And that's a good sign! We also got to see a little glimpse at Black Panther, and a levitating Scarlet Witch! ( YESSSS!!!!!! ) This movie really is everything that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building up to.
Many more films to come, and even more trailers. Some will be brilliant like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Trailer #1, and some will tank by revealing major plot twists like Terminator: Genesys (Seriously, fire the team who gave us that trailer!)
There will be an awakening in the force soon. Feel it. May the force be with you.
